Humphrey, Covill & Coleman Insurance Agency, Inc., as it is now known, was founded in 1926 by Ernest J. Humphrey and Raymond F. Covill, both former Liberty Mutual Insurance Company employees. In 1948 following his graduation from Yale University and a brief tour of duty as a Naval Officer and an employee of INA, Philip L. Coleman, Humphrey’s nephew, joined the agency and shortly after that the partnership became “Humphrey, Covill & Coleman”. After a career that spanned 39 years, Coleman as President retired from the agency in 1987. Upon graduation from Brown University, and a tour of duty with the U.S. Army, Raymond A. Covill, joined the agency in 1956. Raymond Covill is a past director of Independent Insurance Agents of Massachusetts.
Peter Covill, CIC
Covill’s son, Peter Covill, joined the agency in 1984. Pete loves insurance and is passionate about finding the right coverage for his clients at the right price. He takes the time to understand each client’s individuals risk and needs and develops an insurance program that fits. He strives to deliver the best customer service possible. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management in 1996 from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. He received his Certified Insurance Counselor designation in 2015. The coveted Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation signifies a higher professional level of experience and competence. Peter served as President of the Massachusetts User Group of Applied Systems from 1995-1997. Applied Systems is the premier insurance management system. He has also served on many community boards. He is currently the Treasurer of Summit Referral Group, a local business networking group that meets weekly. He currently serves as the Vice Chair of the New Bedford Art Museum / Artworks! Pete is an avid birder and has been all over the country photographing birds. He also loves to cook and spend time in his garden and with his dogs.

Elizabeth COVILL Gibson (LISA), CPIA
Lisa joined the agency in 1991 and holds both Property & Casualty and Life, Accident & Health Licenses. In 2015 she earned the designation of a Certified Professional Insurance Agent. She is a graduate of Tabor Academy in Marion, MA and graduated cum laude from Boston University in 1989 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. She is well-versed in both personal and commercial lines and oversees the daily management of the office. She spent countless hours volunteering her time as a parent at local schools including Falmouth Academy on Cape Cod. For many years, she sat on the board for The Tri-County Music Association, a non-profit group which raises scholarship money for students pursuing degrees in music. She has also helped raise money for the foundation, Climb for Cancer, representing Massachusetts in the 50 States – 50 Peaks – 1 Goal nationwide climbing event. She spends her free time boating in Buzzards Bay and birding. A member of the Highpointers Club which summits the highest point in each state, Lisa has reached half of the 50 states with Mount Katahdin in Maine being her 25th summit. Raised in Mattapoisett, Lisa now lives in Marion with her husband and two sons. Her youngest son, Wiley Gibson, joined the agency in 2018 as the Quality Manager making him the fourth generation to carry on the legacy of the agency.

We are in the insurance business. We have seen many, many… too many claims. We have been to several fire claims where a client lost everything. It is truly devastating. “Yes, that is covered” helps, but the hug and reassurance we will be there for them help more. And we stay there with you throughout the entire claims process.
True story… One day an elderly client came in with the entire side of her car spray painted by vandals. We determined that she did not carry comprehensive coverage on her older car and that the claim would not be covered. We just could not see this client drive away unsatisfied. Pete and his Dad took their ties off and proceeded to wax the entire side of her car and removed all of the spray paint. It looked so good they kept going and shined up the whole car. Her car sparkled almost as much as her smile.
Pete got a call one night from a client stating that a pipe had burst and her entire condo was flooding. Pete put his boots on and drove to her house and got the water shut off and helped her move all the Christmas presents off the floor, thus rescuing Christmas for the kids.
